Service of Process in Arizona

When someone sues your business, or the state sends a formal legal notice, that delivery has a name. It is called service of process, and your statutory agent is who receives it.

Served
in person

Every Arizona business has to name someone who can accept legal documents for it. That is the whole reason the statutory agent role exists. Service of process is the moment that job matters most.

What is service of process?

Service of process is the formal delivery of legal papers, like a lawsuit or a subpoena, to your business. Arizona routes that delivery through your statutory agent.

The papers tell you a legal action has started and that the clock is running on your response. Miss that window and the case can move without you. Read more on what a statutory agent is and why the role carries real weight.

Who accepts service for your business?

Your statutory agent does. They keep a physical Arizona street address, open during business hours, and sign for legal documents on your behalf. A P.O. Box will not do.

Arizona law requires that street address under Arizona Revised Statutes Title 29. The address is public, which is exactly why many owners use our office instead of their home.

What happens if no one is there to accept it?

A court can move forward without you. That can end in a default judgment against your business before you even know a case exists.

Miss a notice from the Arizona Corporation Commission and the fallout is different but just as bad. The state can strip your good standing and, in time, dissolve your business. A reliable agent is how you avoid both.
